Donald Hammett, Sr. Shoe Program-AKA DHSP

Donald Hammett, Sr. Donald Hammett, Sr.

Don was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and served during the Korean War. He was a retired math and astronomy teacher and coached track and cross country for 23 years at Firestone High School located near Akron, Ohio. Two of the many things that he was proud of in his life were his service to our country and teaching people how to run.  Don Passed away on December 21, 2012 at the age of 81 years young.  His family asked friends and other family members who wished to send flowers to his funeral to instead make a donation to the Patriot Runners.

We appreciate the Hammett family’s faith in our organization and we are therefore naming our new Shoes for Vets program the Donald Hammett Sr. Shoe Program or for short, DHSP.

100% of the money donated from friends and family of Don will go to the purchase of new running shoes for North Eastern Ohio Combat-Wounded Vets.  A percentage of additional donations made during 2013 year will also go towards the DHSP.
